Dress Code for Our Wedding in Japan


To ensure all our guests feel comfortable and appropriately dressed for our special day in Japan, we have put together a few guidelines on attire.

We hope this helps you choose an outfit that both honors the occasion and allows you to express your personal style.

For the Ladies

We ask that you dress in formal attire. This could be a nice dress or a pantsuit. Please consider the things below when choosing your outfit

  • Color Palette:

    • Please refrain from wearing all white dresses or outfits. White accessories are welcome!

    • Avoid wearing all black outfits. Choose attire in happy, celebratory colors if possible.

  • Attire:

    • Opt for outfits that cover your shoulders, chest and toes.

    • If wearing an outfit that shows your legs, please wear natural or skin-colored stockings.

  • Footwear:

    • Avoid sneakers, boots, or sandals.

    • Choose elegant footwear such as heels or dress shoes.

  • Patterns:

    • Please refrain from wearing animal prints, such as zebra or tiger patterns.

For the Gentlemen

We ask that you dress in formal attire. A dark coloured suit is recommended. Please consider the things below when choosing your outfit

  • Color Palette:

    • Choose a suit in a dark color such as black, navy or dark gray.

    • Avoid wearing black ties as this is associated with funerals in Japan.

    • A white shirt is standard, but pastel-coloured shirts are also acceptable.

  • Footwear:

    • Select dress shoes that complement the formality of your attire.

    • Avoid sneakers, boots, or sandals.

  • Patterns:

    • Please refrain from wearing animal prints, such as zebra or tiger patterns.
